Pre-School (Toddler to Pre-Kindergarten)

Days and times vary. Please see below for specific program.

Ivy League’s Pre-School is a caring, exciting and bustling learning community where young children explore and experience the joy of learning.  In safe and nurturing surroundings, teachers and teacher assistants facilitate children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development and help all children make the most of their promise and potential.  With a mix of teacher-directed and child-selected activities, children learn to make good choices, form friendships, and develop a strong foundation of readiness skills for reading, writing and mathematics.  As important developmental milestones are reached, teachers work individually with children at specially designed learning centers to further maximize their academic potential and to build their confidence and self esteem.  Teachers make great use of our beautiful campus giving children many opportunities to appreciate the outdoors, develop gross motor skills, engage in positive peer interaction and just have fun.  To round out the program, we offer a wide range of activities including art, music, gymnastics, technology, library time, gym and foreign language.

Turning Two (Toddlers turning 2 in January, February, or March)
Monday/Wednesday — 12:15pm-2:15pm (February Start)
Because we know that 6 months in the life of a toddler makes a significant difference in their physical, emotional, intellectual and social development, we’ve created a special, fun-filled program for children whose second birthday falls after January 1st.  Children spend quality time together as they learn to cooperate, share, take turns, and follow directions.  The day also consists of enjoying snack, listening to stories and making an art project or two.  The class is limited to 8 toddlers with two teachers.

Toddler Programs (2 year olds)
Monday/Wednesday/Friday — 9:15am-11:45am or
Tuesday/Thursday — 9:15am-11:45am or 12:15pm-2:15pm

In warm nurturing surroundings, teachers help 2 year olds discover the world around them through active participation. In this learning through play environment, cooperative and creative activities incorporate educational materials to encourage language and concept development.  Music, movement and art help children develop small and large motor skills and build self-confidence.  Special attention is given to each child’s individual growth pattern and evolving personality.  Class is limited to 10 toddlers with two teachers.

Nursery Programs (3 year olds)
5 days – 8:30am-4:30pm (Full Day Plus)*, 2, 3, or 5 days — 9:00am-3:30pm (Full Day), 10:30am-2:30pm (Mini Day), or 9:00am-12:00pm (Half Day)
Most three year olds are ready to take their first steps on a path to a lifetime of learning.  At Ivy League, you can be sure that your child’s introduction to schooling will be full of fun activities, social experiences and personal expression.  Your child‘s day is balanced between play, free choice, guided experiences and teacher-directed centers.  A multi-sensory approach to learning together with a print rich environment, featuring good literature and an alphabet curriculum, reinforce children’s natural interest in letters, words and numbers.  There are many opportunities for children to make mathematical and scientific discoveries as they use attractive manipulative materials and experience our beautiful campus.  Creative expression through art, movement and music, and small and large muscle activities are interwoven into every aspect of the program.

* The new Full Day Plus class offers a day care schedule combined with the academic advantages of an Ivy League education. In the past, working parents had to choose between day care and schooling. Now, your child can experience both. With day care hours (extended hours available), open most school vacations, and year round options, children will have plenty of time and opportunity to engage in activities that support their natural interest in letters, books, numbers and the world around them. In addition to enjoying our beautiful playgrounds and campus, children in the Full Day Plus program will participate in extra sessions of creative arts, music, Mandarin, physical education and gymnastics.

Pre-Kindergarten Programs (4 year olds)
3, 4 or 5 days — 9:00am-3:30pm (Full Day) or 10:30am-2:30pm (Mini Day)
At Ivy League, we are keenly aware of the variation in growth and maturity patterns for children of the same chronological age.  We also recognize that the same child’s physical, emotional, intellectual and social milestones are likely to occur at an uneven pace.  As this is particularly apparent among four year olds, we offer a choice of programs based on what is known from research and practice about the range of 4 year old development.  While themes and topics may vary by class, each of these well-balanced program features stimulating learning centers and flexible grouping where teachers and teacher assistants make the optimal match between the child and task at hand.  Both structured and unstructured experiences challenge each child’s developing capacities while allowing them time to process newly acquired literacy and math concepts.  Children’s natural curiosities about the world around them (science and social studies) serve as the core curriculum as children apply their newly acquired pre-academic skills in fresh and meaningful ways. The magic of childhood is ever present with plenty of time for friendship and creative expression, through art, dramatic play, on the playground, or at the tree house.
Highly academic and developmental in nature, our Full Day Pre-Kindergarten Program provides an enriched environment focused on reading, math, writing and scientific principles.  Using a creative approach to learning, students are involved in an exciting variety of learning centers designed to promote cognitive, artistic, physical, social and emotional development.  Children are worked with on an individual basis so that they are able to learn at their own speed and gain maximum benefit from the full day curriculum.

Gifted Pre-Kindergarten Programs (4 year olds)
5 days — 9:00am-3:30pm (Full Day) or 10:30am-2:30pm (Mini Day)
Parents of children who show superior learning and retention abilities, are insatiably curious, and have a long attention span should consider this program choice for their four year old.  An enriched and accelerated curriculum involves children in a variety of educational and fun activities to broaden and deepen their knowledge base.  In a stimulating and growth-friendly environment, specially designed learning activities at varying levels of sophistication (including above grade level material), enhance higher order thinking skills, encourage creative expression and promote independent thinking.  Recognizing that all children of this age and ability do not develop evenly, teachers and teacher assistants work with children individually or in small groups to strengthen and support their social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth.  Children are worked with at their own speed in an approach where learning skills are built upon one another.  Whether a child can sound out letters, read words or is already a reader of books, the teacher will guide him or her to the next level.
